This intervention was developed in order to address the lack of natural light and public spaces in Montreal’s underground city. The Lionel-Groulx Metro Station is one of Montreal’s most efficient stations, but only functions for this singular purpose. The large space above, and the current gentrification of the area provide the opportunity for a public space, where people can gather for events and festivals. Straight steel box-frame members support flat panes of glass to create the hyperbolic curvature of the roof structure.
